Welcome to New Delhi

Delhi is hot, hot, hot! At 8am it's already 30 degrees, but it is also a really green city - snapped from our taxi window

From the airport to our first port of call, the Paharganj area of the city, there was a huge protected deciduous forested area enclosed by ornate green metal railings.

Paharganj is a busy area where hotels, businesses and homes collide with each other. The traffic is also manic, road markings count for nothing and the horn is definitely king, although it used (as far as I can make out) just to say "I am here" rather than to hassle the unsuspecting tourist to get a move on.

The Hotel Krishna is our little luxury first hotel with air con, wi-fi and a marble staircase that at wouldn't be out of place in a stately home. We look out over Delhi rooftops and into other people's lives, such is the nature of this vast city. Some people don't have a lot but a smile is free and goes a long way, and it must be a wonderful place if your cows can roam free!
